Our History

Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Preschool began in 1980 as the result of Reverend Jim Manning’s dream to create a preschool ministry at Nichols-Bethel United Methodist Church. With the help of church member Joy Richardson, who had a degree in Early Childhood Education, the preschool opened with only eight students and two teachers.
For 30 years, Joy led the program with dedication and love until her retirement in 2010. Today, Nichols-Bethel Preschool continues her legacy by providing quality early childhood education rooted in Christian values.

Meet Our Teachers

Program Director & Teacher

Jennifer Holcomb

Jen graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.S. degree in Human Resources. She graduated with three certifications: Nursery/Kindergarten, Young Exceptional Children (Special Education), and Child Life. She joined the Nichols-Bethel Preschool as a teacher in Fall 2009 and became the school’s director in Fall 2010. Previously, she worked five years in the Maryland public school system teaching preschool and kindergarten students with and without special needs.

"I love bringing Bible stories to life through interactive storytelling and providing unique experiences in which children can explore problem-solving techniques. Along with Ms. Deborah, I enjoy creating an atmosphere where it is not only cool to love Jesus, but also to live like Jesus!"

Deborah Brown

Ms. Deborah graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine with a B.S. degree in Medical and Research Technology with a Chemistry minor. Deborah is a parent to two children who graduated from Nichols-Bethel Preschool. Deborah first served as a preschool classroom volunteer then became a substitute teacher for the preschool. She has been a full time teacher with the preschool since January 2017.

"My favorite part of teaching at NB Preschool is being in a Christ centered environment where I'm able to help students persevere and celebrate their successes in the little things. It is hard to be a kid! So whether it's finally being able to write all the letters in your name or giving extra time to add another detail to your art project, I'm happy to share in those triumphs."
